Personal Opinions - Ideas on Research

Designing Learning Materials as Online Learning Resources

Learning materials or resources do not directly determine learning outcomes. The design of learning materials affect:

· Clarity
· Usability
· Motivation

These aspects will enhance learning outcomes.

However, learning outcomes are influenced by the learner's motivation to study, learning approach and the design of learning tasks (and many other factors as well).

The design of learning materials as resources predicate the notion is active learning produces better learning outcomes. Learning materials are used to facilitate learning tasks or activities. The success of the design of learning materials is assessed by the degree of the facilitation process.

To introduce this understanding of learning materials as resources for learning tasks or activities, lecturers have not evaluate their approach in developing their units and how they are used in CeL and the learning materials they placed there. Students will also need to reconstruct their perception of learning materials as resource rather than downloading them as offline reading materials that will 'transfer' knowledge to them.

My research will look into:

· How well lecturers accept this new understanding or approach to learning design?
· How well student accept this new approach to learning design?
· What elements of design that best serves the new role of learning materials as resources to facilitate learning tasks?
· How do these elements serves to enhance learning materials as learning resources for learning activities?
